what do combat medical technician’s do on ops?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I’m currently a TA infantary soldier and am considering moving to the regulars with a trade i can use outside of the army, but i still want to do an patrols and be on the ground with the men rather than stuck in bastion or kandahar. so do combat medical technician go on foot patrol in afghanistan? and if so how regularly? can anyone suggest a career option that would allow me to do go on foot patrol but also opffer useful skills?

CMT’s are life savers, I cannot stress enough how important these guys are to any patrol! They are immensely skilled men & women, who regularly put their own life on the line to treat injured, and they have my most sincere respect & admiration!
The main deciding factor on how much time you spend on the ground is the unit that you are attached to. If it’s a front line unit, then you will be out quite a lot. On the other hand you could end up inside the wire, working at the hospital for most of your tour, so there isn’t a definitive answer.

It is possible to join another part of the Army, & then specialise as a Medic. But there is no guarantee that you would be able to get on the All Arms Medics Course (not sure on the exact title of the course, apologies if I’ve got it wrong). I think the best thing you can do is go to the careers office, do the BARB test, & see what jobs the Army thinks you are capable of first.

What job can I get from experience being in the Air Force Reserves as a 4N0 (Aerospace Medical Technician)?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I’m joining the Air Force Reserves as a medical technician. I’m wondering if anyone has found a job maybe in a hospital or Dr.’s office with their experience in the Air Force.I want to know what job I can get full time while I do reserves on the side. Thanks!

A medical profession is always worth considering, from nurses and doctors right down to hospital cleaning personnel. The website in the box below has some fantastic tips on entering this splendid industry. My brother got some fantastic help from there before securing a profession as a medical admin assistant.
